The core feature of transparent ceramic sintering furnaces (mostly vacuum/atmosphere+high temperature+high pressure type) is to produce transparent ceramics with high transparency and no defects (such as YAG, Al ₂ O3, Sc ₂ O3, etc.) through exhaust holes, high density, high purity, and high uniformity.
1、 Core environmental characteristics: high vacuum/special atmosphere
Ultra high vacuum: conventional 10 ⁻³~10 ⁻⁵ Pa, preferably up to 10 ⁻⁶ Pa level
Exclude air, oxygen, and water vapor to prevent oxidation, coloring, and porosity
Volatile impurities (such as SiO ₂, CaO, Na ₂ O) are extracted in real-time at high temperatures to improve purity and transparency
Controllable atmosphere: capable of passing H ₂, Ar, N ₂, vacuum+hydrogen, etc
H ₂ reducing atmosphere: prevents valence changing ions (such as Fe ³ ⁺, Ti ⁴⁺) from developing color and improves transparency
Inert atmosphere: protect easily oxidizable materials (such as YAG, alumina nitride)
High cleanliness:
Furnaces/heat shields often use molybdenum (Mo), tungsten (W), tantalum (Ta), high-purity graphite, etc
No fiber dust, no metal impurities volatilization, to avoid contaminating the body
2、 Temperature characteristics: high temperature+ultra-high uniformity+correct temperature control
1. High working temperature:
Aluminum oxide transparent ceramic: 1650-1850 ℃
YAG laser ceramic: 1700-1850 ℃
Furnace type: 2000-2200 ℃
2. Good temperature uniformity:
Temperature difference inside the furnace ± 2~± 5 ℃ (ordinary furnace ± 10~20 ℃)
Multi zone temperature control, surround heating, multi-layer insulation, thermal field optimization
3. High temperature control accuracy:
± 0.5~± 1 ℃, PID+programmed heating/insulation/cooling
Long term insulation stability (tens of hours), uniform grain size, and no local abnormal growth
3、 Structure and process characteristics: vacuum+hot pressing/hot isostatic pressing (HIP)
Transparent ceramics should be close to theoretical density, with pores<50nm, and often have pressure sintering function:
1. Vacuum hot press sintering furnace (Hot Press)
Axial pressure: 20-50 MPa
Pressure+high temperature synergy: rapid discharge of pores, density>99.99%
Suitable for block shaped and rod-shaped transparent ceramics (laser rods, infrared windows)
2. Vacuum hot isostatic pressing (HIP)
Gas isostatic pressure: 100-200 MPa
Complex shapes can also be fully dense, stress free, and highly uniform
3. Furnace material:
High purity alumina, zirconia, molybdenum foil, tungsten mesh lining
No impurity volatilization, no reaction with the sample, no pollution
4、 Cooling and Control: Precise, Stable, Intelligent
1. Controllable cooling:
Slow cooling (reducing stress, transparent and crack free)
Quick cooling (controlling grain size, improving strength)
Water cooled furnace shell/electrode, continuous and stable for a long time
2. Intelligent control:
PLC+touch screen, multi-stage process curve (30-50 segments)
Fully automatic interlocking of vacuum, temperature, pressure, and atmosphere
Multiple protection alarms for data recording, over temperature/over pressure/water cut-off/air leakage
